october update

Of the 11 years that I've gigged professionally (post-college), I've never had any serious mishaps (by my fault or default) until this year. What is it about 2008 that's brought on bad luck (or in one case, stupidity)?

Over the summer I got to a gig, unloaded my stuff, and discovered I forgot my sax. Duh. It's not like I have a ton of equipment to haul around...I bring, like, 3 things. One of which I forgot. Thankfully, that gig was in town.

Last week I was playing with jazzchocolat at Fat Jack's and I had a serious horn malfunction. My G key took a dive and made the horn unplayable. I had to get by for the rest of the set on flute (it's always in my case) until Kevin brought my tenor to me. Again, thank goodness it was an in-town gig! (And thank you thank you thank you Carl's Pro Band for doing a quick fix the next day...I needed my sax for a gig the next night!)

Maybe it's just the law of averages. The longer you do something, the more chances arise for something to go wrong.

Anyway, just thought I'd muse a little. I'm going to update the gig section next. Not a ton of stuff is going on really, but I know some folks check in here so I'm doing my best to stay current. Hope everyone is enjoying fall!
